in singles players try to just get it back if the serve is strong, so if it lands in the middle that would be a safe place to strike it. generally when the ball goes to the forehand it’s easy to hit crosscourt, backhand should also be hit crosscourt or pull the ball from the Deuce side and if it goes to the forehand from the deuce side hit crosscourt so by pulling the ball you’re striking it crosscourt. If you were return down the line you’re striking the ball over the highest part of the net in the shortest part of the court which present you with the greatest risk of a mistake.
