Power is the bi-product of weight transfer and use of the linkage system in stroke production. The player who keeps his feet on the ground gains more power from the ground reaction force when he or she uses that to transfer strength into the shot. Let’s look at an example! A baseball player never hits with one foot off the ground while swinging the bat. Both of the baseball player’s feet are well planted when he swings for the home run. This is an example of ground reaction force. The tennis player’s feet are not always on the court and his weight is not always moving forward. This is improper application of weight and produces lots of challenges for the tennis player. So, step direct and keep both feet well planted to take advantage of your body weight and ground reaction force. Just remember the ball has to stay inside the lines.
