The well-known Instinct line gets a major change with the new Head YouTek IG Instinct MP, now endorsed by Maria Sharapova. A number of changes have been made, but the most importantly structurally is the addition of the unique Innegra technology, which utilizes a special melt-spun fiber integrated into the graphite matrix. The fiber was initially developed for the surfboard industry as a way to strengthen the board, providing high durability without significantly increasing the weight. When placed into a racquet, a beneficial side effect was noticed as the fiber possessed a unique flex characteristic that resulted in lower vibration and greater comfort. The YouTek IG Instinct MP features a moderate weight and tapered beam, providing a comfortable blend of power and control with a surprising amount of feel. Fans of the previous Instinct series will be surprised to see a new, more traditional, 16×19 string pattern, which will offer a bit of additional spin in comparison to previous models. The spontaneous d3O material remains, which is a smart matrix material that adjusts its own rigidity based on the conditions at impact. For faster swings, the molecules will temporarily link together, providing additional stability and control, while on slower swings, the material remains pliable for increased feel and touch. Another improvement is the use of larger comfort grommets in key areas of the frame. These grommets work by allowing the string a greater range of movement, creating additional stringbed deflection for a larger sweetspot.
