HOW TO PLAN A PRACTICE

TENNIS PLAYERS ALL HAVE SOME WEAKNESS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR GAME. THE WEAKNESS MAY BE MENTAL OR SHOT SELECTION, OR TACTICS AND STRATEGIES. THE PRACTICE SHOULD HAVE A GOAL IN MIND, BEFORE YOU STEP ONTO THE COURT. THE GOAL COULD BE TO MOVE BETTER FOR VOLLEYS OR SERVE AND VOLLEY AS A TACTIC. THE PRACTICE SHOULD BE DIVIDED UP INTO STAGES AS FOLLOWS.

1. WARM-UP AND STRETCHING

2. ON-COURT WARM-UP –(THIS MEANS JUST HITTING THE BALL)

3. REVIEW OF PREVIOUSLY LEARNED SKILLS

4. PRACTICE OR LEARN ANY NEW SKILLS

5. PRACTICE COMPETITIVE SITUATIONS

6. PLAY SETS WITH SKILL IN MIND

7. PHYSICAL TRAINING — SPRINTS, CONDITIONS ETC

8. COOL-DOWN AND STRETCHING

NOW I ASK YOU HOW MANY TENNIS PLAYERS HAVE SUCH AN ORGANIZED ROUTINE TO DEVELOP PERFORMANCE. THIS IS WHAT EVERY TENNIS PLAYER SHOULD CONSIDER IN THE GOAL OF BETTER PERFORMANCE. I CAN SAFELY SAY THAT AT ALL THE CLUBS I HAVE RUN I HAVE YET TO SEE STUDENTS ATTACK THE PRACTICE WITH THE SAME DISCIPLINE AS A MATCH. PRACTICE WITH EFFICIENCY AND EXCEL.
