What does it mean when people say they chip and charge?
The chip-charge is a tactic when players attack a return of serve or the short ball, and come in to net, constantly to put pressure on the opponent, so that they hit the ball up. This is typically hit with a slice and then the ball stays down low, so the opponent has to hit up and they get an easy volley, as a scoring opportunity.
