Scott Nichols – On The Other Hand Newsletter – Vol 8 – November 2012

The last 2 months of the year for teaching professional’s and touring professional’s is usually quiet on the busy and competitive side. However, we all must continue to prepare for 2013 on the court and off. “Off the court,” can mean scheduling your tournaments, conditioning, lesson play etc. depending on if you teach, play or coach within the tennis industry

.For me, I do all three; but obviously, as a Director of Tennis at a private club, having a schedule for programs, leagues, employees etc. is a priority and then the personal side for playing tournaments and conditioning comes into play.

For you the member and league player, you need to set up your action list of your playing goals, what partner you may desire to play with, what ranking or doubles line you are hoping to play etc. Using team clinics, private/semi-private lessons on occasion will help, as well as, video and stroke analysis.

Arranging practice and lessons during a tennis season is difficult, but your tennis pro/coach can aid you with the best schedule and have the best of both worlds; effective practice and successful play.

For the junior or high school player, you need to see what seasonal leagues or teams you are hoping to participate on and then make sure forms, memberships, check-ups, equipment etc. is all done beforehand, so you can just focus on the sport at hand….tennis.

As far as, the Pro Mens Tennis Tour, Roger Federer is atop the rankings again and he was not as dominant as in prior years. This shows that winning at the right time, having other players ‘off’ the circuit, due to injury and having more players winning in the later rounds; all means that # 1 is not a given and sometimes the best player is not ranked # 1. Roger will win one more grand slam in my prediction, most likely

WIMBLEDON.

See you on the courts.
