With September, comes fall weather, sweatsuits,
school starting, football and yes….the US OPEN
Tennis Tournament. If you are on my web site; www.snicholspro.com,
produced by Gateway 1, you have read previous newsletters, tennis tips
and hopefully, purchased my book; “On the Other Hand,” have you?
Did you know the US Open Octagon Store on site is selling the book for
the 3rd straight year? You can also purchase book on this web site, as well as,
on Amazon, www.usopenshop.org and www.ustashop.com. Please tell
your friends and know their is a guarantee on purchase, money back if
the book does not help your game!
After watching the 1st week of the US Open, it seems several “new names” are
in the field and looking good. I see a possible ‘upset’ on the women’s side and the men’s,
due to the 3 out of 5 sets, my bet is still on the favored 3, Federer, Djokovic, and Murray, leaning
to the 18th Grand Slam for Roger. The added motivation for the top ranked men is the # 1
tennis ranking; can Roger keep it or will someone else claim it….stay tuned.
As I discuss in my book, fitness does play an increasing role in today’s
tennis. At the US Open and several weeks prior, the hard court season
has been tough on the player’s bodies, the humidity all across the country too has been
difficult. This being said, fitness and conditioning is a vital part of your tennis game.
For sure in the men’s game with those long possible 5 set matches, but too in the
women’s game, when their are so many base liners that stay the course and can go
the distance. Water, water and more water with possible other fluids will also
aid the cause. Stretching after you play and adding some massage or bike riding/
swimming will also, aid with removing the lactic acid that builds up after your
muscles get over worked.
Lastly, practicing during hot weather is good practice for when you
play matches during the same weather. Not necessarily for long
stretches of time, but definitely getting used to the climate. Serving in the
afternoon when the sun is difficult for a righty, or in the am when for a lefty
has problems is encouraged, so you can attempt
at making changes in your toss or stance. Learning to deal with these issues will
aid you with confidence in your match play.
Until next time, please read my book over and over to reinforce
the responsibilities of the non-dominant arm and get the word out
that it really works or money back!
