Cushion grips are thicker than over wrap and are usually very comfortable in your hand. Some are called smooth grips and some are contour or raised grips, these allow your fingers to have a raised area to hold on to. Over wrap grips are just that, they over wrap the cushion grip. These grips are usually short lived but for the short term of time being used they create a better stickiness for hand and grip. They usually wear down quickly depending on one’s amount of play. Over wrap grips, though thin, are used to even sometimes to raise the size of the current grip, ex.; 4 3/8 to a little under a 4 1/2, since the player states the 4 1/2 is too big.
