To play smart tennis, you have to play the percentages. That’s because in tennis, more points are won on errors than on winners. So when you’re engaged in a baseline rally, play it smart. Hit deep and wide crosscourt until you get an opening to attack. A crosscourt ground stroke is safer than a down-the-line shot. There are three reasons why:

1. A crosscourt shot passes over the center of the net where it’s lowest.

2. You can hit the ball farther and still keep it in the court because you have more court in which to hit.

3. You end up in a better position to defend against your opponent’s next shop.
