In tennis, as in baseball, a lot of players don’t hit their ground strokes with the power with which they are capable. They make contact with the ball too late or too close to the body, popping up their shots with little power. To generate power, you need to make solid contact with the ball out in front of your body using a full, fluid stroke.
A baseball batter has a similar problem. If he is jammed by pitches close to the body, he can’t swing fully and hit the ball with any power. Yet if that same batter can extend his arms on the swing and meet the ball out in front of his body, spectators in the outfield bleachers better be paying attention.
Don’t allow yourself to get jammed on your ground strokes. Meet the ball out in front of you with a full swing, not a choppy, jammed stroke. You’ll make solid contact with the ball and be a big hitter in your league.
