By combining two string materials that are typically used together in hybrids, the new Wilson NXT Control 16 makes the claim of being labeled as an “Internal Hybrid”. Using over a thousand individual micro-fibers, the filaments are combined into seven individual groupings. In order to achieve a somewhat homogeneous string, the polyester fibers are grouped into three of these parent fibers, while the nylon filaments combine to form the other four. NXT Controluses the softer nylon in the center, and then alternates the polyester and nylon groups around the central core. After twisting, the string is essentially a homogeneous mixture of approximately 40% polyester filaments, and 60% nylon fibers. A polyurethane resin is used to bind all of the fibers together and to ensure a soft, comfortable response. The advantage of this hybrid construction is that a string is created that combines the control and durability of a stiffer polyester string, with the comfort and forgiveness thatNXT is known for. In testing, we found this string to play stiffer than NXT and offer additional control, but still retained the larger sweetspot that we expect from NXT. Recommended for players seeking a more durable alternative to the typical multifilament string without sacrificing too much feel.
