THE BALANCE ON AND OFF THE COURT.
PLAYERS TODAY IN THE EARLY STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT HAVE TO HAVE SCHOOL AND LIFE AND SPORT MEASURED TO THE MINUTE. WE SEE BURNOUT AND DROP OUT FOR THOSE WHO FALL PREY TO THE LACK OF TIME MANAGEMENT IN LIFE AND SPORT. I CHOSE TO DEVELOP SPORTS AS A TRAIN RUNNING THE TRACKS TO GET TO THE NEXT STATION IN LIFE. I WORKED HARD AND CHOSE TO GIVE UP SOME STUDY TIME IN ORDER TO DEVELOP TENNIS TIME. THE GOAL WAS A COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP AND SCHOOL PAID FOR. THE MANAGEMENT OF TIME WAS THE MAJOR CHALLENGE IN OUR LIVES AT FIRST. PARENTS ORGANIZED OUR LIVES SO LONG WHEN WE ARE YOUNG THAT WE HAVE VERY LITTLE EXPERIENCE IN STREAMLINING OUR DAYS TO BE TOTALLY EFFECTIVE. I GAVE UP A STRAIGHT AN AVERAGE TO BE A TENNIS PLAYER. I CONDUCTED MY STUDIES LATE AT NIGHT AFTER A 3 OR 4 HOUR PRACTICE, YOUR BODY IS TIRED AND RUN DOWN AND STUDIES AND HOMEWORK ARE THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO. I BELIEVE SOME PART OF THE EQUATION SUFFERS IN THIS FORMULA OF DEVELOPMENT. THIS PART MAY NOT BE EVIDENT TO THE OUTSIDER OR COACH.
THE RESULTS IS STRESS ON THE PART OF THE PLAYERS, PARENTS, COACHES, TEACHERS, ETC. THE STUDENT SUFFERS WITH THE DECISION OF WHICH AREA DO I FOCUS AND HOW MUCH TIME CAN I SPEND. PARENTS NEED TO MONITOR THIS BEHAVIOR AND DECREASE THE ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PLAYER BY SCHEDULING TIME FOR FUN AND SOCIAL TO BALANCE THE STRESS OF WORK LOAD. IN THE CASE OF MYSELF, PARENTS LET ME BURN THE CANDLE AT BOTH ENDS. MASTER OF NONE, JACK OF ALL SYNDROMES.
I WOULD ASK THAT PARENTS USE GOOD JUDGEMENT AND MONITOR THE DIFFICULTY OF THE SCHEDULE FOR THE WELL BEING OF THE CHILD OR STUDENT. I FEEL SCHOOL AM THE VICTIM OF SPORTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES WHEN UNDER STRESS. THE GOAL HERE IS THE 4 M’S MONITOR, MENTOR, and MOTIVATES, And MANAGE PARTICIPATION TO ELIMINATE STRESS AND FATIGUE.
I USUALLY SAY TO SOMEONE WHO’S BEHAVIOR THAT LOOKS OUT OF LINE THAT THEY ARE OUT OF BALANCE. I RECOMMEND THAT THEY TAKE AT LEAST A WEEK OFF TO CATCH UP ON SCHOOL AND OTHER ACTIVITIES TO REGAIN THEIR FOCUS. THIS HELPS THE STUDENT TO RELAX AND KNOW THAT THERE IS NO DEADLINE FOR TENNIS DEVELOPMENT. SOMETIMES THE STUDENT DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE CASE AND YOU HAVE TO CONVINCE HIM HE NEEDS THE TIME OFF TO RELAX AND SEE DAYLIGHT. THE WARNING SIGNS ARE SHORT TEMPER, RUSHING, NOT FOCUSED, NAIL BITING, POOR ATTENTION, POOR ATTITUDE, RACKET THROWING AND BAD LANGUAGE. THESE BEHAVIORS INDICATE SOMETHING IS WRONG IN THE PROCESS OF THE STUDENTS DEVELOPMENT. THE GUIDANCE OF A MENTOR OR PARENT HELPS TO RE-FOCUS THE INDIVIDUAL SO AS TO STABILIZE THE ENVIRONMENT. I SUGGEST THAT YOU DO NOT TRY TO BALANCE THIS SITUATION YOURSELF BECAUSE OF THE ABILITY TO EVALUATE PERCEPTION OF BALANCE.
I SUFFERED THROUGH THIS SITUATION WITHOUT MY PARENTS AND A MENTOR FOR GUIDANCE AND THE QUALITY OF LIFE WAS TERRIBLE. I RECOMMEND REMEMBERING THE 4 M’S MANAGE, MENTOR, MOTIVATE, AND MONITOR FOR GOALS ARE ONLY STEPPING STONES FOR THE STUDENT. DON’T RUIN SOMEONES LOVE FOR A GAME BECAUSE OF YOUR LACK OF MANAGEMENT OF TIME. YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE AT YOUR CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT YOU BETTER WORK HARD AT IT.
