Prepare to be Realistic

Before deciding on any New Year’s resolution for 2013 you must be prepared to be realistic, don’t set yourself a goal which aims too high and may be unachievable. If you do this you will set yourself up for a fall and you may not be able to fulfill your resolution, make your 2013 New Year’s resolutions within your reach. Always start small, by taking little steps you will achieve your goals much more effectively and you will find that your 2013 resolutions are enjoyable. Don’t run before you can walk, baby steps are better than leaps, as Neil Armstrong said when set foot on the moon “A small step for man but a giant leap for mankind”. Say for example you wanted to take up some form of physical exercise for health reasons or to lose excess weight then start off by taking short walks or using the stairs instead of grabbing the elevator. When you can comfortably manage this goal then introduce another small goal, maybe walk a little further each day or try walking more often. When you have achieved this you could consider joining the local gym, take up cycling or go swimming. If you start off small and gradually work your way up then you are far more likely to stay positive, focused and optimistic.
